MLS Cup Thoughts: Did I Really Get it Right or Just Get Lucky?
Major League Soccer Talk —
Before the season, I picked Real Salt Lake to win the Western Conference and play in MLS Cup. Along with DuNord’s Bruce McGuire and a few other bloggers who made this prediction, I looked worse and worse as the MLS Regular Season wore on. My projection of RSL to win the West was based on the squad of players available, quality of goalkeeper and the depth the team has.
Yet with two weekend left in the MLS Regular Season, the Utah based club had the fourth worst record in MLS. Were RSL a European or Mexican club, they’d have been facing a relegation battle. Yet, they won MLS Cup, and deservingly so based on the balance ...

So the news came down today that the TOA league would be dubbed the new North American Soccer League. Yes the return of the NASL is possibly more about the name than the actual league here. The TOA group went for name recognition right away with this choice.
The league has nine clubs now that Tampa and Baltimore have jumped ship and they could look to add a tenth with the possibility of Rochester leaving the USL after 2010.
Currently there are only 5 teams remaining from last year’s USL-1 season. Austin, Cleveland, Portland, Puerto Rico and Rochester, with the expansion team of New York bringing the league to 6. Some ...
MLS’ Players Deserve Better
Major League Soccer Talk —
For the last week we heard about the great 2009 for Major League Soccer. Please pardon me, while I take a step back from Don Garber’s rhetoric and raise the ugly side of 2009 in American soccer.
I will not dispute that this summer appeared to be the tipping point for the sport in the country. We saw the biggest non World Cup crowds over the summer since Cosmos mania swept the nation in the mid to late 1970s (when several NASL teams averaged over 25,000 fans per match) for several friendlies involving European club teams, and the national team reach its first ever FIFA final.
But as the year wore on, the ...

The defending champions can be eliminated today. And Liverpool's long run of European glory can also be extinguished. Wynalda for US Under 20s: Handle With Care
Bleacher Report - Front Page —
It went widely unnoticed or cared about, but when Soccer America reported that Eric Wynalda is being given a trial run as an Under-20 National Team assistant coach, my head started spinning.
Would Eric use his brash style, deep history, and strong playing experience as a force of good to help groom our promising next generation of ...
