FIFPro Lobbying FIFA for Action Against MLS
Match Fit USA —
... (Fédération Internationale Des Associations de Footballeurs Professionels) will lobby FIFA on behalf of MLS players , who maintain that the league's contract structure violates the rules of soccer's governing body. This issue is at the heart of the current CBA negotiations, as the players have consistently voiced their displeasure in recent months with Major League Soccer's non-guaranteed contracts, ability to terminate contracts, and lack of free-agency. FIFPro's action now puts the league on notice that sweeping the problem under the rug will not be possible; despite ...

FIFPro (Fédération Internationale Des Associations de Footballeurs Professionels), the international players union, will lobby FIFA on behalf of MLS players, who maintain that the league’s contract structure violates the rules of soccer’s governing body.
This issue comes during the middle of the current CBA negotiations, as the players have consistently voiced their displeasure in recent months with Major League Soccer’s non-guaranteed contracts, ability to terminate contracts, and lack of free-agency. With FIFPro’s statement this now puts the league on notice that their continuing dismissal of a problem cannot go on any ...

MLS/Players Union Update
Down the Byline —
After tomorrow's expansion draft, the main focus for MLS will turn to the league's collective bargaining agreement which is set to expire in January. A little bit of news on the issue has come out in the past day. Today FIFPro asked FIFA to step into the potential labor dispute because MLS doesn't follow FIFA's Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. FIFPro has a long list of complaints against the league; there are players without a guaranteed contract, player contracts are routinely terminated by the league, MLS acts as a cartel, there is no freedom of movement for any MLS player, and virtually any player can be transferred to another club in the ...
Poll: Will MLS Players Cost the US World Cup Bid?
Major League Soccer Talk —
The United States Men’s National Team is only months away from competing in its sixth consecutive World Cup. At the same time The US is submitting a bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cups.
As has been discussed in many articles on this website, the MLS Players Union has several grievances against Major League Soccer. Yesterday, FIFpro whose working relationship with FIFA is quite good, as evidenced by labor issues in European leagues, issued a strong statement, which mirror my concerns about the league’s labor practices.
Commissioner Don Garber responded in a conversation with SI.com writer Grant Wahl: ...
CBA Negotiations: FIFpro
Major League Soccer Talk —
Yesterday, FIFpro the federation of international football players got involved in MLS’ increasingly messy labor dispute by issuing a strongly worded statement which among other things, referred to MLS as a cartel. Do you agree with the MLSPA’s decision to engage FIFpro, who has a strong relationship with FIFA as evidenced by many player related issues in Europe? Or do you believe this is an internal matter that should be settled in a domestic manner without outside interference or aggitation?

So, MLS Players and Owners, Can You Act Like Grownups, Or Are We Heading for a Strike?
The Offside —
So, MLS Players and Owners, Can You Act Like Grownups, Or Are We Heading for a Strike? By: Laurie | December 13th, 2009 labor I think negotiations for the new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) for the MLS Players Union so far can be summed up like this: Union: We want better contracts. Owners: No. Union: Please? Owners: No. Union: Pretty please? Owners: No. Union: Fine. We’ll go get our big brother FIFPro. Owners: Fine. Do it. Union: Okay. We will. Owners: Fine. Go ahead. Union: Okay. We will. Owners: Fine. Union: Hey, FIFpro! FIFPro: You’re greedy and stingy and not in compliance with FIFA rules. Owners: How dare you say we’re not in compliance? ...
