Sala Makes Final 10 for Save of the Year

Interestingly there are three field players up for Save of the Year: Tyrone Marshall of Seattle, Geoff Cameron of Houston, and Red Bull’s Kevin Goldthwaite. FCD was shut out of the Goal of the Year Final 10, but since goals are fun here are the finalists. Down the Byline — The Wizards had 4 goals up for Goal of the Year, and 2 of those goals have made it to the final 10, one from each Davy Arnaud and Claudio Lopez. Arnaud's goal is his blast from the first game of the season against Toronto. Lopez's goal is his shot from midfield that looped in over Donovan Ricketts. Check out all the nominees below. Donovan's Galaxy Strike Voted MLS Goal of the Year
100 Percent Soccer — Donovan's goal came in the Aug. 8 game against New England and was one of 12 he scored during the regular season. His stunning left-footed volley beat out an Alecko Eskandarian effort and eight other finalists. It's the first time a Donovan goal has received the award. LA Galaxy — The thought of writing this post after the opening day game against DC United never entered my head. That was a slightly improved version of the meltdown season of 2008 – defensive breakdowns, not much stability in the middle and an attack that put two in the back of the net, but looked frustrating doing it. In addition, DC United showcased a rookie pick-up on the left named Chris Pontius who scored a cracking goal over Josh Saunders. The Bruce Arena makeover seemed very much a work in progress.
