A swarm of bees invaded Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Saturday, briefly halting Mexico’s World Cup qualifying match against El Salvador only two minutes into the match. The match is a critical game for Mexico as it attempts to grab one of three automatic berths from the Concacaf region to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But with the game just getting underway, the El Salvador goalkeeper Miguel Montes motioned to the referee, Carlos Batres of Guatemala. Mexico had to put there World Cup qualifier game on hold tonight as they took on El Salvador because of a swarm of bees inside the goal.
The match was stopped for more than six minutes while officials sprayed the area using fire extinguishers to try to get them to go away near and around the goalposts.
